In this workshop, we receive images from NOAA weather satellites. We show you how to record the signals with a cheap Software Defined Radio (SDR) Setup, and how to implement the nessecary signal proccesing. In the end, we will have a cloud weather image of europe.
The workshop covers all neccesary parts to receive and decode the Automatic Picture Transmission (APT) stream broadcast by the satellites NOAA 15 and NOAA 19. This includes the hardware and software part: We use the RTL-SDR with a DIY V-diploe antenna tuned for 137 MHz to receive the signals. You will implement most of the decoding pipeline, generating the result image from a stream of demodulated audio samples. We provide the boilerplate code and guide you through the implementation of the necessary proccesing steps.
You need to bring your own computer.
The material for this workshop is in german, but we can of course give the presentation and answer questions in english.
